Swebus
Strong position
Swebus is the largest player in the Swedish market and has the largest geographic spread. Swebus's size provides economies of scale in such areas as purchasing, systems and quality and makes it possible to continue making competitive offers for new contracts.

Swebus was formed after the merger of three state-owned companies - SJ Buss, GDG and Posten. Stagecoach acquired Swebus in 1996 before Concordia Bus took over in January 2000.  Swebus is now Sweden's leading bus company and develops, sells and produces transport services under contract for Swedish clients.

Swebus product
Swebus's main product comprises local route services that are operated for various clients throughout the country. School services have been conceptualized as "Skolturen," which states Swebus's view of safe school journeys. School transport and other subsidiary activities are becoming an increasingly important complement to scheduled services  to enable efficient use of capital and driver time that has already been paid.

Services to and from airports are being developed within Swebus under the name "Flygturen."

In certain areas, services to order, for municipalities, organizations and others, are becoming an increasingly important complement to the main business in the form of better utilization of the existing vehicle fleet. Traffic on demand is performed by the subsidiary Swebus Serviceresor AB. The first assignment is for the community travel service in Blekinge, using 20 vehicles. The business is conducted as a taxi operation.
Contract status
Swebus operates services under 103 contracts and with about 2,500 buses deployed from Gällivare in the north to Malmö in the south. A total of 26 of the contracts represent 80 percent of sales. Index structures vary between the contracts. Swebus is highly dependent on the price trend for diesel in the short term, since the company is under compensated in the event of price increases. Swebus endeavors to sign contracts with an increased proportion of remuneration connected to incentives and standardized bus specifications that makes it possible to transfer buses between different traffic areas.
Gävle Stad - an incentive-based contract
The incentive-based contract that Swebus signed with Gävle Stad in 2001 has proved extremely successful - for all parties involved. In addition to fixed remuneration for production, the contract is based on variable remuneration according to the number of passengers. The starting point is that Swebus shall retain 50 percent of ticket revenues. The unique factor is that Swebus is also responsible for planning timetables and, in cooperation with Gävle Municipality and the client, X-trafik, for marketing and information to customers and the public. Joint analyses are also conducted once a month. The results in Gävle speak for themselves. More customers are taking the bus, ticket revenues are increasing, while the cost of traffic is being held down through effective planning. Gävle Municipality, Swebus and, not least, the public, have understood the benefits of public transport on the customer's terms. The contract, which comprises about 40 buses, runs until 2010.
